Mallorca Half IronMan
FitAsylum would like to wish all the Invictus Athletes taking part in this years Mallorca 70.3 Ironman the very best of luck in this weekends race. Mallorca is the worlds biggest half Ironman event and 9 athletes from Invictus Triathlon Club (Wigan) will be taking on the 113km course.
The event starts with a 1.9km open swim in the Mediterranean Sea in the harbour area of the city of Alcúdia, before progressing onto 90km bike course.

The anti-clockwise loop, starts and ends in Alcudia. The first 15km are flat as the route heads north to Puerto Pollensa before turning west towards the town of Pollensa. The next 20km section from Pollensa to Lluc through to Serra de Tramuntana, is the hardest part of the Ironman bike course with a 14% climb at the beginning of the climb. It starts with the main climb, Coll de Femenia, followed by a quick descent and more climbing on the undulating road. The last section is the 1.5km Lluc Monestary ascent, which has an average gradient of around 5%. At around the 36km mark starts the descent, the descent itself is quite technical with a number of beautiful, but sometimes dangerous hairpin turns. The 2nd half of the route is quite flat as the rides head back to Alcudia and transition 2.
