You'll never grow or improve if you stay in your comfort zone!!
You'll never grow or improve if you stay in your comfort zone…That’s the advice from Chris who we spoke with last week to find out what he’d been up to since completing his Online Personal Training Course with us, and to say his story was inspiring would be an understatement.
Roll the clocks back to 2015 and Chris wasn’t in a great place, his weight had ballooned up to 16st 7lbs and he was living off takeaway meals and washing them down with far more than the recommended daily allowance. Chris decided enough was enough and set about making some positive changes. The takeaways were replaced with healthy meals and Chris started running and doing bodyweight training at home. Once the changes to his body and Mental Health started to take effect, it motivated Chris further and he really wanted to show others how adopting a healthy lifestyle could really change your life.
At this point Chris hadn’t been into a gym and all his workouts had taken place from home, but he knew if he was to pass on his knowledge, and use his enthusiasm to motivate others, he needed to get qualified. He did some research and jumped onto a L2 Gym Instructing Course with a company he’d found on the internet, shortly after starting he realised the course wasn’t as good as it had appeared on the sales brochure, that’s when he first contacted Fitasylum.
“It was really easy”, said Chris, “As soon as I phoned Fitasylum, they explained that I could enrol onto a government funded L3 Diploma in Gym Instructing & Personal Training Course, which combined the L2 Gym Instructor qualification and the L3 Personal Trainer qualification together. The process was really easy, Fitasylum give you all the information you need to apply for the Funding, although my passport was out of date, so I need to send in my birth certificate to get the funding”.

As Chris had already started his L2 Gym Instructor qualification with another company the work he had already completed was easily transferred across, and he breezed through the first part of the course. It was the second part of the course where his course tutor Jasmine stepped in to support him. “Jasmine was great, the support was really good, there were weekly support meetings which you could drop into for additional help, the practical assessment days were good as well, I really enjoyed those, especially because I’m more of a practical learner”, he said.

Did the course meet your expectations we asked Chris “Yes, it more than met them, I expected to be taught about become a PT, especially the practical hands-on side of being a Personal Trainer, but it was the added support and Business Advice I was given about setting up a business that I never expected to be included which was of the most benefit, that really helped me! I still speak to the tutors now, In-fact I was speaking to one of the tutors this morning” he explained.
We asked Chris what sort of impact the course had had, and his response was amazing “I’m currently doing a L4 Strength & Conditioning Course and I’ve opened a PT Studio in Kirby Stephen which is going really well, although we’ve always room for more clients. I also did the L3 Sports Massage Therapy Course with you guys so I could offer an additional holistic service to my clients, the course was fantastic, and the tutor Aimee was so knowledgeable, the Sports Massage side of things has really taken off as well, I’ve opened a Massage & Wellness Centre in Carlisle and in the first week we had over 160 leads and we’re getting between 30 and 50 bookings a week”.
